Upton Barn Wedding Photographer – Georgina and Dean’s Day

By Gavin at Gavin Horrell Photography

Two of the things I love best about being a Devon Wedding Photographer, are getting to capture wedding photography at Upton Barn and Walled Gardens, and getting to meet and work with lovely couples like Georgina and Dean.  Their Spring barn wedding was a joy to capture.

On the day, I woke to full sunshine and headed out to catch up with the wedding parties making their preparations.  I was working alongside my fantastic second shooter, enabling us to literally be in two places at the same time.  As a Honiton-based Wedding Photographer, this was made all the easier for me, as it was two locations in Honiton where the wedding parties were gathered.

Georgina and her bridal party were getting ready at Dean's parents’ house.  Things were looking very organised with co-ordinated PJ’s, fruit platters and pastries, and the girls in the capable hands of make-up artist Josie Skinner and hair stylist Styled by Sharna.  The bridal party were in great spirits and we took the chance to get some great images of them in the garden under a beautiful wisteria tree.

Georgina looked stunning in a Eva Lendell dress that she bought at the Brides of Waterfield bridal boutique in Exeter.  It was white satin, with a beautiful off the shoulder style and a fitted skirt that elegantly framed Georgina’s figure giving her an amazing silhouette in all of our images.  It had a stunning train at the back adding a real air of grandeur.

Maid of honour Kaya, and bridesmaids Olivia and Rachel wore elegant burnt orange dresses with clever multiway straps by Infinity.  It was such an original colour and the bouquets of beautiful burnt orange and white flowers with green foliage, tied everything in perfectly.

Georgina travelled in style to Upton Barns in a stunning blue Porsche that belonged to the family.

Dean and his groom's party were getting ready at Georgina and Dean’s house, Dean is in the army so wore his uniform for the wedding.  I love capturing military wedding photography.  The smartness of the uniforms, the military wedding traditions and the camaraderie always creates the perfect conditions for amazing wedding photos.

The groom's party consisted of Dean, his stepfather Richard, best man David and groomsmen Merlin, Will, Beau and Hamish.  The guys travelled together to Upton Barns and on arrival we captured some great image of them by the fountain lake.

Georgina and Dean chose an outdoor ceremony in Upton Barns’ beautiful walled garden.  And we got some gorgeous images of the venue all dressed and ready for the day.  As well as some candid images of excited guests arriving.

Storytelling Devon wedding photographer

Now, it’s always good to meet and work with other professionals in the wedding industry, and this was the case working with Farhath Siddiqui who was there to capture the wedding film.

The bridal party arrived, and all convened in The Paddocks preparation area for a cheeky shot of something, before heading out.  The ceremony took place in the beautiful gardens below a wooden arbour with Georgina and Dean’s family and friends seated behind them.  The ceremony was sealed with a fabulous first kiss that wowed everybody.

This was followed by a fun confetti moment that we captured perfectly. Everybody then enjoyed a drinks reception in the sunshine and we took our chance to get some great group images, with Upton Barn’s serene lake and manicured lawns giving us the perfect backdrop.

With guests happily catered for, we whisked Georgina and Dean away for a few minutes for a romantic photoshoot around the beautiful gardens, grounds and interiors of Upton Barn.  We got some amazing images that we know that Georgina and Dean are thrilled with.  Here, take a look!

Creative and Natural Devon wedding photography

The wedding reception was held in Upton Barn’s gorgeous Cider Barn.  It has wooden walls and ceiling giving it a wonderfully rustic feel and large ceiling-to-floor windows along one end that flood the space with tons of natural light.  Light that we played with to create even more beautiful images.  Honestly, us Devon wedding photographers are real geeks when it comes talking about light!

Guests were seated first so that they could rapturously welcome Georgina and Dean to the reception.  Proceedings started with the cutting of a delicious looking two tiered naked wedding cake made by La La Cakes.  But as this was a military wedding, Georgina and Dean used a sword to make the first cut.

There followed a sumptuous wedding breakfast prepared by the talented team at Mulberry Catering.  And then there were some emotional and very well received speeches.

After the meal as guests milled about and enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine, Georgina took

Dean outside to the patio to surprise him with a present of a very colourful beer pong table.

We then headed into the garden with the wedding party for a fun photoshoot using smoke canons.   And captured the groom's party doing some frankly alarming acrobatics with Dean, where thankfully nobody got hurt!

Beautiful wedding photography at Upton Barn

Evening celebrations started with a romantic first dance for Georgina and Dean.  Not that they were on the dancefloor alone for long.  Their guests were definitely up for a party and Devon DJ Paul Radmore was there to make sure they got one.

When it came to evening entertainment Georgina and Dean left nothing to chance.  There was The Little Greek Food Truck Pollynostimos serving delicious Greek street food, and there were sparklers.  I love sparklers at weddings, they add a bit of fun at a point in the day when you think all surprises are over.  And they make for great wedding photos.

And of course, the new beer pong table got its first use and proved to be very popular.

We loved capturing Georgina and Dean’s wedding at Upton Barn.  A laid back, stylish and fun wedding full of love and laughter, at a simply stunning Devon wedding venue.

Congratulations guys and thank you for having us there.  We hope our images will allow you to relive your day again and again for many years to come.

We’ll leave the last words to Georgina and Dean.  Here’s what they had to say about working with us.

Our experience with Gavin and Samantha as our wedding photographers was an incredible one. From the moment we booked them as our photographers we were given 5-star treatment. Nothing was too much and the photos speak for themselves, just WOW!

We were made to feel at ease, we had so much fun whilst being photographed and our dream wedding vision was brought to life! We asked for smoke bombs, sunset pictures, sparkler moments and all of this was delivered to perfection.

Having 2 photographers was the best decision we made as each photographer captures different angles and moments that would be missed with just one photographer. 100% would recommend again and again. Love from Mr & Mrs Guest x”
